‘Wannabe’ Cop Who Shot Man Over Handicapped Parking Spot Sentenced To 20 Years

A man in Florida has been convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting an unarmed man during a dispute over a handicapped parking space in Florida last year.

NBC News reports that 28-year-old Markeis McGlockton was shot and killed by Michael Drejka outside a Clearwater convenience store in July 2018. Security camera vision captured the shooting and was used by both the defense and prosecution teams.

Drejka consistently monitored a handicapped parking space at the Clearwater Circle A Food Store in Florida as he was a “wannabe law enforcement officer” Circuit Judge Joseph Bulone described during the trial. On one particular day, Markeis McGlockton parked in the handicapped spot and went inside the store with one of his children as his girlfriend, Britany Jacobs, and their two other children sat in the car.

McGlockton soon exited the store and saw Drejka in an argument with his girlfriend over the parking space. As the 28-year-old exited the store, he pushed Drejka to the ground who then pulled out a gun and fatally shot McGlockton.

In reading his verdict, Judge Joseph Bulone said “No one really used perfect justice in this case but the evidence in this case shows the defendant created conflict and created confrontation and shot and killed an unarmed man who was backing up and retreating and trying to save his own life by retreating once his saw the firearm.”

In a chilling statement issued before Drejka was sentenced to 20 years in prison, McGlockton’s father said he will finish things when he meets Drejka in hell.

“In the Bible, it says in order to get into heaven, we must forgive those who trespass against us. At this point in my life, I am not there yet. And if it just so happens that the Lord chooses to take me before I come to terms with this, then I will see you in hell where you and I will finish this. Mark my words,” he said.
