Driving The 2019 Suzuki Ignis For 6 Months Was A Surprise-Free Experience

Reviews

Budget cars will stick around for as long as there are buyers out there who just want an affordable car that will just do the job – which, we guess, will be a long, long time.

With such vehicles, what you pay is what you get, so if you have minimal requirements, then perhaps a Suzuki Ignis is all you need.

The city car with crossover influences that replaced the Splash has been around since the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and is a global product put together in Japan, India, Algeria and Hungary. Think of it as a roomier alternative to the usual Volkswagen Up! and Toyota Aygo A-segment hatchbacks that slots under the usual urban crossovers such as the Nissan Juke and Mazda CX-3.

The youthful exterior appearance extends to the cabin, where you can get some colorful trim to make you forget about the hard plastics. Also, the Ignis comes with electric windows and an infotainment system to remind you that you’re sitting in a modern vehicle. Storage spaces and room at the back are decent, and so is the cargo area.

As for this 2019 Ignis, it spent the last six months in South Africa’s CarMagazine’s garage. It cost R196,900 ($13,284) to purchase and turned out to be a trusty companion – well, as long as the road did not include any hill climbing, as the tiny 1.2-liter engine produces only 82 HP (83 PS / 61 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 83 lb-ft (113 Nm) at 4,200 rpm. We’ll let the reviewer take it from here and tell you about some of things they found out during their tenure with the car.
